  • Recognition by Honor Society

I was chosen as scholar of the day with an Honor Society that I am a member of.  I’ve copied and posted the clip.  It’s a little inaccurate because I don’t volunteer at the pregnancy center ever since my work schedule changed, but other than that it’s all correct.

    Javonne Doraene Flory

Javonne D. Flory, a psychology major at James Madison University, is determined to attend graduate school and obtain a Master’s in Counseling. “I plan to work with adults helping them with daily issues and life problems,” Flory explained. “I see myself as a servant. My ultimate goal is to help others.”

Outside of the classroom Flory spends most of her time working. “I drive a gasoline tanker full-time,” she said. “Besides that I love to hunt, ride motorcycles, play the violin and read. I like both excitement and quiet time in my life to give me some balance. I also volunteer at a local pregnancy center.”

When describing her philosophy towards life Flory believes that, “by helping others you end up helping yourself and living a happier more fulfilled life.”

Flory was a semifinalist for the NSCS Merit Award, recognizing outstanding new members around the country who exemplify scholarship, leadership and service.

  • Moving Just Down the Street (Soon)

It’s only about a month now until I can move into the house I bought in Timberville last October (the little brick one).  Right now, my friend Monica and her family are living there until their new house is built.  I still have the brown house in Broadway (below) but I rent it out.  I’ll most likely be looking for a roomate for the Timberville house when I move in.  I’m only five houses down from mom and dad, so if anyone comes to visit them, you can just pop into my place quick too.And as close as Justin’s house is (only around the corner from mine) you all could just make a loop. I’m so excited.   I just keep thinking about how I’m going to decorate and have things set up.  I’m going to have a painting party at some point, I think.  I bought an adorable Queen Anne desk at the Mercy House. Grandfather did a little fixing on for me, and grandmother wants to claim it.  It really is a cute peice. All I really NEED at this point in the way of furniture is a few dining room chairs. Jolene is lending me her table, but she has no chairs. I guess I could always stand, seeing as how I sit at work all day anyway.

  • Classes

This will be my second week of classes for the spring semester.  I had only planned to take one class, but again I am taking two.  I’m in Counseling Psychology and Psychology of Motivation, both of which I think are going to be very interesting.  Both of my teachers seem to be very personable, but serious.  If I finish well, I should graduate in April.  I’m very excited.

I had Queena helping me with a paper already over the weekend.  She really has a talent for writing and I have nearly none.  It was nice to get some input.

  • Sewing Weekend with Polly

This weekend Jolene and I came to Delaware to sew and visit with Aunt Polly.  I have been working on an old wallhanging that I’d never finished and I’m turning it into a lap blanket instead.  In this picture, I’m marking the quilt.  I’ve just gotten to the point where I’m starting on the machine quilting.  Yesterday we made a trip to Jo-Ann’s for supplies.  Cheryl and Queena went too.  Jo-Ann’s had such a big sale that everyting we bought was at least 50% off.  We also stopped at Goodwill and I found a pile of great clothes.  It was worth the trip.  It’s been such a relaxing time that I called into work and asked for another day off, which was approved, Hooray!

Here, I’m working on basting my layers together.  This piece was left in a hoop for over 10 years so Aunt Polly is helping me to work in the stretched areas.  It’s coming along quite nicely.

I’m also working on a queen size quilt that I pieced at last year’s sewing retreat.  That one is a trellis with lots of applique and I definitely need Polly’s expertise on that.

  • Aunt Polly got me on here.  It’s going to take me a bit to figure this thing out, but I’ll work on it.  I think this is going to be a great way to keep in touch with more of my distant family and friends.
